Nursing and Teaching a lesson in patience

There are two job fields in Trinidad and Tobago that call a lot of patience, nursing and teaching. If you want to do a degree in nursing or teaching in Trinidad and Tobago be prepared to wait a while to actually get employment in the field. This is not to discourage anyone but it's just the reality of the situation.
When you complete your teaching degree or even before, you must register with the Ministry of Education. Then you have to wait for an interview with the ministry, after the interview you must wait to be placed. This wait can take years. Is it worth the wait? Well yes if teaching is really your passion, but if not then maybe no.
When you complete your degree in nursing there is also a waiting period. Again if this is your passion then it might be worth the wait, but if not then maybe it's not.
Now in terms of salary both teaching and nursing pay well. A person may not have to wait exclusively on the government Ministries. They can also apply for employment at private institutions.
You can also branch off into other fields. A degree in nursing may I allow you to get into health and safety, Administration, teaching, writing, and many other positions. With a degree in teaching you can work in administration, customer service, sales, and much more.
So if you are one of those waiting what should you do? Don't just sit and wait to explore all your options.
